The Lyonia Environmental Center hosts numerous monthly programs ranging from Preserve hikes to educational talks to nature themed crafts and everything in between! Volusia County lists the LEC events on Eventbrite and requests that you RSVP. We also highly recommend you sign up for the West Volusia Audubon mailing list with weekly update e-mails including links to all of the latest LEC happenings!

In addition to helping promote and advertise these events, the Friends group provides funding support for food, materials, and other items to make sure these programs are free to the public!

Some of the most popular programs include:

  • Tiny Trekkers. Story time and a short hike, recommended for children ages 2-7.
  • West Volusia Audubon Meetings / “Nature at Night.” Co-hosted with West Volusia Audubon, this monthly program brings in a nature-themed guest speaker with pizza and drinks provided by the LEC Friends!
  • Crafts. These popular programs include “upcycling” everyday materials into beautiful floral arrangements and other art pieces.
  • Rain Barrel Workshops. Learn how to install and use your rain barrel – and take one home with proceeds benefitting the LEC Friends!
  • Guided Hikes. During cooler months, join LEC staff and volunteers for a guided hike through Lyonia Preserve including the weekly Wednesday Wildlife Walk.
  • Science Sundays. An educational and fun monthly series with a themed activity for the kids.
