The Friends of Lyonia is a volunteer-based program that is part of West Volusia Audubon and supports Lyonia Preserve and the Lyonia Environmental Center. The Preserve and Center are run by Volusia County.
Many of our volunteers sign up to become volunteers for Volusia County, which allows them to perform various functions at the Center including leading educational programs, tending to the many native plant demonstration gardens at the LEC working with the Garden Keepers, leading hikes and much more.
We are always in need of volunteers, and we want you to bring your special skills and interests with you! If you’re interested in volunteering, you can reach out to us at lec.friends@gmail.com to ask questions or learn more, or you can sign up directly with the County via their website.

From the gardens, to signage, to the benches in the Preserve, much of what you see at the LEC is from volunteers like the Friends group and local scout organizations.

Eagle Scout volunteers help construct the Outdoor Classroom, which you can now find at the smaller of the Preserve’s two wetlands, just off the red trail.
